Politicians gave up right to have say over ferry service

A powerful monument to honour our D-Day heroes

Have your say

Rick Jackson

How will the new owners run the company? Will services be cut and will local jobs be at risk?

I find all this rhetoric crazy when you consider the last owners spent £70m on the company and the new owners know investment in Portsmouth is the only way to see good growth and a healthy return.

Politicians gave up the right to have a say in the ferry service when it was privatised in 1984.

Unless the government decides that ferries should not be run in a similar manner to our buses or trains, they should pipe down. Rightly or wrongly, it’s private enterprise.
