I had a look at the new Change 4 Life website, part of a Department of Health initiative to get us all eating healthy, low-cost meals.
Apparently, it’s shocking that so many of us eat sandwiches for tea. Shocking to who exactly? If we’ve all eaten a decent lunch, who cares about a sandwich?
Anyway, I was more than surprised to find that the seven-day meal plan came up with tasty-looking stuff such as cheese tortilla, sausage and bean stew and pitta pizzas.
But the ingredients list asked for low-fat versions of cheese and sausages, which kind of does away with the low-cost element of the meals.
Unfortunately for our bodies, lower fat invariably equals higher cost. The reality is that it can be hard to do healthy on a budget.
