Three words, spoken slowly – and most people will be able to hear in their heads the person who spoke them.

It was Trigger, convinced that Only Fools and Horses’ Rodney was called Dave.

It takes a special kind of talent to make such a character adored by millions, and so easily recognised even a decade after the show last aired.

It’s always a massive shame when we lose someone with such talent. The world of television comedy is mourning the death of Roger Lloyd Pack at the age of 69.

He also had a starring and much-loved role in the Vicar of Dibley. There aren’t many people around with the breadth to be that kind of comedy actor, so the loss is a great one.
