How wonderful to see all the candles at Canoe Lake in Southsea on Friday.

Regular readers will know I raise money for The Rowans Hospice by taking on silly running challenges, so it’s close to my heart.

One of my favourite things the hospice does is its Light Up A Life event. Hundreds of people gather at the lake to float candles on the water, representing loved ones who have passed away.

It’s not just for people who have been cared for by The Rowans, it’s for every person who has been bereaved in the Portsmouth area.

It’s a moving event and it’s a very important way to show how people are not alone in their grief, as well as a way to remember a loved one at Christmas time.

Long may it continue.
