Shops should bring back that magic from our childhoods

Surely, holding a door open for a member of either sex is just good manners?

LESLEY KEATING: Would you dare hold a door open for a woman?

Ho, ho, ho, it’s that fabulous time of year again when all the shops are looking sparkly and festive in the run-up to their busiest time of the year.

When I was looking at the windows in town recently, it reminded me of Christmassy days of long ago.

When Debenhams in Commercial Road was known as Landports, the windows always used to be so magical to me, with their assortment of lovely animated folk and animals.

When I was little it was a special treat to be allowed to go up to Santa’s grotto, either in a simulated space ship or train.

I really wish that shops did this for the youngsters of today and helped to bring back a little bit of that seasonal magic from our childhoods.
