I was astonished to read about a lorry driver attempting to bulldoze through railway barriers at New Lane in Havant.
I know waiting for trains to come through can be frustrating, especially if you’re running late and the barriers are just starting to descend. But they’re there for a reason.
Apart from the damage the driver did to the lorry itself, what would have happened if a train had come?
Police are still looking for the driver, who didn’t wait around to assess the damage. But I hope whenever they are identified they are shown a film of what happens when a train collides with a vehicle.
In fact, that should be shown to everyone who decides the barriers don’t matter. Perhaps then there would be fewer incidents like this.
