Small, free and children are welcome - what’s not to like?

CLIVE SMITH: Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn about Valentine’s Day

Have your say

Aaaaaah. Hear that sigh of pleasure? That’s because the little gallery in Gosport has done it again – put on a cracking show.

This time it’s the turn of Henri Matisse and his papercuts to be featured.

I really enjoy the Gosport Gallery shows for three reasons. One, they’re small, so you can take them in while carrying a bag of vegetables from the market.

Two, the shows are free. Well, the ones I’ve been to are.

And three, the staff like children – or at least pretend to in a pretty convincing manner.

The exhibition features loads of information on papercutting (collages made on walls by assistants while Matisse directed from his chair or sick bed) and the end results. I learned a lot and enjoyed the art. Go see!
