Soon they’ll be arriving at proms in a Harrier jump jet

It’s the time of year when you see school-leavers hanging out of Hummers, dressed up in prom gowns and tuxedos.

As with most things, it’s been brought to our shores from America.

The prom craze is getting bigger and bigger. But with three daughters, I’m really hoping it gets smaller and smaller.

By the time they leave school, I expect the prom dress will be the price of a small family saloon and they will be arriving in Harrier jump jets.

It’s all spray tans, manicures and false eyelashes – and that’s just the boys!

In my day it was a bottle of White Lightning down the park, an ill-fitting dinner jacket from your dad and an Inbetweeners-esque attempt to ‘pull’ at the leavers’ disco!
