LESLEY KEATING: A white-knuckle pursuit ending with a lesson in trust

Have your say

There is something comforting about the sound of Portsmouth Harbour. During the day, you can hear some of the activity in the naval dockyard as tannoy announcements from on board the warships waft across Priddy’s Hard.

The morning also brings gunfire from the ranges at Tipner. And by night the harbour has a hum.

You can hear the police patrol boat going about its business and the rumble of the overnight cross-Channel ferries.

These noises are something you only really notice when you’re not there. We stayed with my folks on the Isle of Wight recently and the silence was deafening.

Thank goodness for the early morning fog horns!
