For my wife’s birthday surprise, we took her for lunch on the P&O cruise liner Aurora in Southampton on Saturday.

The idea is for you to sample the ship with a view to booking a cruise in the future.

We had a wonderful time and enjoyed showing the family around a ship we’d been on back in April.

I’d like to apologise now to the guide though, who must have felt like a teacher talking to a know-it-all child as I corrected him on some of the details of the ship.

It must be a guide’s worst nightmare, taking an anorak round.

But then again, surely he should know about main engine capacity and propeller pitch?
