TAMARA SIDDIQUI: Leave Ferne alone over acid attack in club

Life can be tough for those in the public eye.

If you’re famous, it’s likely you often get judged by the things you say and do much more than other people.

The constant criticism must be hard to take, but it comes with the job and being held accountable for your own actions isn’t the worst thing in the world (unless you really mess up).

But what I do think is wrong is dragging someone down because of something that happens to them which is beyond their control.

Last week, the now ex-boyfriend of reality TV star Ferne McCann (Arthur Collins, aged 24) was being hunted in connection with an acid attack at Mangle nightclub in East London.

A corrosive substance was thrown, leaving two people blind in one eye and others with multiple burns.

Collins has now been charged, along with another man, Andre Phoenix, with several counts of GBH with intent.

Collins also faces a charge of throwing corrosive fluid on a person.

Unfortunately for Ferne, who’s just revealed she’s pregnant with Mr Collins’ baby, it was her name in the papers and her who received nasty messages.

Now a presenter, the 26-year-old became famous on The Only Way Is Essex (TOWIE) before entering the I’m A Celebrity jungle.

I’ve seen headlines with phrases like ‘TOWIE attack’ in, which is just so misleading.

The poor woman has been shoved even further into the limelight at a time when she’ll be feeling the most vulnerable, associated with a horrific attack that had nothing to do with her.

The focus from a news point of view should have been on the attack and those who allegedly carried it out.

She broke up with Collins and after condemning the attack, has said she’ll go forward as a single mother.
