Thanks in advance to our Guide Awards stars

COMMENT: University has to prove it offers value for money

Have your say

We’ll say thank you on the night, but in the countdown to The Guide Awards I’d like to throw a few bouquets on to the stage.

The annual celebration of arts and entertainment is always a great night, thanks to the contribution and enthusiasm of so many people.

Of course, the management and staff at the Kings Theatre in Southsea make a huge contribution. It’s a wonderful venue for the awards night.

We’re grateful too to Wave 105 breakfast presenter and Guide columnist Steve Power, who will again this year be picking up the presenter’s microphone. Steve has a smooth style and sharp wit that always goes down well with the Kings audience.

As well as compering the announcement of the winners, Steve will be introducing the star acts who will perform during the evening.

So thanks in advance to News Instant Star talent contest-winning acrobatic dancer Amy Tiller and vocal group MELO, to Elissa Churchill of Groundlings Theatre Company, comedian James Alderson and schoolboy DJ, Ted Lavender as well as the new exciting band Huw Olesker and The Barebackers.

Sounds a great line-up, doesn’t it? And if you want to see those stars perform you can do – for free!

We’re offering Guide readers the chance to attend the awards night by applying for complimentary tickets.

To apply for free tickets or to sponsor an award, call Sara Houghton on (023) 9262 2206, e-mail her at or write to Guide Awards Tickets, c/o Sara Houghton, The News, News Centre, Hilsea, Portsmouth, PO2 9SX.

I do hope that you can join us at the Kings on November 14 for what promises to be another memorable night.

And my grateful thanks to all those who will make a contribution at the awards ceremony.
