The day that an unimpressed editor had presses stopped

Where better to begin the fight against hate crime?

Have your say

My heart warmed to the woman from the Irish town of Effin who has been refused permission by Facebook to list it as her home town on the grounds of good taste.

Ann Marie Kennedy’s appeal to the site for the decision to be overturned has been refused.

‘I’m an Effin woman and I always will be,’ she said, warming to her theme.

It reminded me of an editor of my acquaintance who took severe objection to the headline placed above a report of a rugby match in which one of his local sides had been trounced by a team from Effingham in Surrey.

‘Effingham blinding!’ screamed the inspired headline.

But the editor had the presses stopped and the offending words removed.
