So this is the long-awaited strike day, which is to cause so many of us such trouble.

I had to laugh at David Cameron’s suggestion that parents should take their children to work with them – if it were practical because of health and safety.

Seriously? I’m not working in an office at the moment, but when I compare that environment and my home, I’d say the office is safer every time.

A couple of staplers and some swivel chairs have got nothing on an open fire, the oven, trees in the garden and the ever-tempting array of electrical products.

I think that what our prime minister meant to say was that you should take them with you to work if you could bear the effect on your mental health and safety.
