Once Premiership rugby and boxing finish today, in my wife’s eyes the sports season has ended. Like many sports-addled families the list of ‘jobs’ and people to visit has swollen since August. Our paper-thin garden fence is a constant reminder.
Working in sport on Saturdays for Radio Solent means missing visits to far-flung friends during the season. Our forthcoming schedule looks like a ’70s rock band’s tour. But sport doesn’t end, it just draws breath. From next week England Rugby are playing a series against New Zealand, there’s plenty of cricket and the relatively well-known World Cup is about to kick off. I’m considering wheeling the TV outside and hosting a few fence-fixing/deck staining BBQs this summer.
