These fixed penalties just won’t work in the real world

It’s important the parade continues – but safely

Have your say

It seems the police are going to be able to issue fixed penalty tickets for bad driving such as tailgating and cutting up.

Great, where do I sign up to get a copper on my back seat, ready to keep a beady eye out for all those other drivers who are giving me hassle?

And where do I get my car fitted with CCTV so footage can be instantly relayed to the nearest police station and a patrol car can chase down the culprits?

Finally, where do I drive so that the route will be lined with police, ready to take down registration details at every infringement?

No? Oh, so it’s just the same then.

Issuing these notices is impractical – and besides, everyone suddenly acts much more considerately when the police are around anyway.
