I hate to be the harbinger of doom, but those World Cup suits worn by the England squad as they left these shores are not exactly inspiring.

Shiny grey becomes very few people and to me is so reminiscent of cheap teenage garb from the ’80s.

Of course, to judge the success of any team based on their clothes is like judging a book by its cover, which everyone knows you’re not supposed to do.

But quite frankly I think it’s hard not to if you’re investing in a new author and you’re taking a punt.

In those cases, covers are really quite handy – especially if they contain reviews by people you respect

But I digress. I really think we should have dressed our boys in something, anything, other than depressing grey.
