This time the Easter Bunny will only be eating carrots

Carrot batons, celery and the humble potato have been my saviours

Easter eggs are off the menu for Rick this year

Who will not be able to resist the temptation?

Last week I reached another milestone. I’ve now lost 10 per cent of my bodyweight since I joined Slimming World.

I’ve got myself into a good routine now and know what I should and shouldn’t be eating. I understand the concept of this being a very low fat diet.

Carrot batons, celery and the humble potato have been my saviours, along with the Muller Light yoghurt.

At work, I arrive with a large lunchbox stuffed with fruit and veg and spend the best part of an afternoon slowly grazing. This negates the need to eat cake, which always seems to be available.

As the weight has slowly dropped off, my fitness has improved and a lighter Rick is now a lot easier to carry around! Next week, I’ll be taking my first 10k run for several years.

But temptation is never too far away. Last Saturday, at a friend’s birthday, she wonderfully cooked a three-course dinner to a Slimming World recipe. Who would have thought Beef Wellington and a cheesecake would be on the menu?

Sadly, I don’t think the bottle of red wine was.

Two months of little or no alcohol meant the following morning was not pleasant.

I do not miss that feeling.

My clothes are now very baggy, which is really inspiring. I’ve had to find all those clothes that once did fit.

Easter Sunday will see an Easter egg hunt at the in-laws for all their grandchildren.

No doubt cake and biscuits will be in abundance.

But for the dieter, the thought of the weekly weigh-in looms large. The fear of gaining just a pound is enough for many to quit.

That’s the hard bit. Staying on a plan all week, but one day of decadence could burst your bubble, so again, Bugs Bunny here will be chomping away on several hundred carrots, in the vain hope my sweet or savoury cravings won’t get the better of me.
