Ever since Britain was described as ‘colder than the Himalayas’ by The Sun during the last chilly snap, I’ve been busy compiling my own weather comparison list.
It will be called the Fleet Street Scale in honour of the late and lamented spiritual home of national newspapers – and it can surely only be a matter of time before it joins the names of Richter and Beaufort in the national psyche.
This weekend’s mini-heatwave had the hacks reaching for the nearest atlas, and we were promised ‘warm as Bermuda’ by the Daily Mail.
However, there was a swift revision over at the Telegraph where ‘hotter than the Sahara’ was threatened.
A full list of the Fleet Street Scale will be included in next week’s paper.
