Isn’t Japanese engineering incredible? I’ve been astounded at the news snippets I’ve caught about how some of their big buildings managed to stay standing. Making buildings flexible enough to survive earthquakes is simply amazing.
It’s quite odd witnessing a natural disaster of this scale hitting a nation which isn’t third world.
Obviously Australia and New Zealand have had more than their fair share this past year, but the threat of nuclear meltdown in a country which I’ve stereotyped in my mind as organised, tidy and efficient is just plain scary.
I’ve never held strong views on nuclear power – it’s not in my back yard, so I don’t really care.
Pathetic hey? But now it’s time that we all sat up and paid attention.
