I was intrigued to learn that ITV is refunding viewers of Britain’s Got Talent who voted for Matisse the dog.

And the reason? Because they were potentially misled as a stunt double dog was used to walk a tightrope and the audience weren’t told.

The runner-up was a magician. How many others worked backstage to make his helicopter appear? Isn’t trickery involved in that?

It’s really annoyed me that this refund situation is the outcome.

Jules O’Dwyer told a story and used her animals to tell it.

Like every show that has ever appeared on stage or film there is an element of trickery involved in the telling – that’s what makes it so compelling for an audience.
