‘Well I never knew that,’ I exclaimed as I was researching West Highland Terriers for the 2013 Westie Walk last Sunday.

I was brought up by my Scots gran, who was orphaned at 12 years old, had little education and called both black and white dogs ‘Scotty dogs’. So did I.

But the West Highland Terriers are Westies, and it’s the black Scottish Terriers that are the Scotty dogs.

The annual Westie Walk along Southsea seafront is to raise money for the study of infant deaths (cot deaths), organised by Leanne Bailey, who lost her son William to cot death.

It was lovely toddling along with dozens of Westies and their owners.

I was with girlie pal Lindzi with Salvatore and DeeDee, and Guy who was pushing Fergus (14) in his ‘puptruck’.
