We need to continue fight for gender equality at work

What better way to celebrate the recent International Women's Day than with a bottle of pink Champagne?

I invited some of my closest girly pals round for a little soiree to mark the event.

As it turned out, everybody had brought a bottle and they were all consumed, which led to some high jinks involving a bit of impromptu pole dancing around a lamppost in the town centre.

Incidentally, guys if you’re feeling hard done by reading this, there’s an International Men’s Day coming up later in the year.

But earlier this month it was our day to celebrate girl power and acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an outstanding role in history.

Today women have far more choices and freedom than ever before.

But me and my pals agreed that women need to continue the fight for gender equality in the workplace.

We want the same pay for the same job as our male colleagues – equality means we should be regarded as valuble as one another.

By the way, isn’t it fabulous that the tax on feminine hygiene products has been abolished?

It was utterly ridiculous that they were classed as luxury items.

They should have been untaxed in the first place, along with other essential things us girlies cannot do without such as red wine and chocolate fingers!

Oh, and I’m a firm believer that bottles of merlot should also be handed out by the NHS.

Getting back to the subject of equality, I would like to point out a couple of important things.

Number one, us ladies are better at driving.

Women are more skilful and careful behind the wheel than men, which is why our insurance premiums are cheaper and our cars last longer.

Okay, I admit we might be a bit rubbish at parking (sometimes) though.

Number two, we have much more choice in the fashion stakes.

Guys can’t really rock a frock or skirt, but we girls can wear the trousers too...

I LOVED DALLAS - AND NOW THE SHOULDER PADS ARE RETURNING

Once upon a time I was a complete devotee of that glitzy 1980s American TV soap Dallas.

I loved the saga of the warring Ewing and Barnes families and it was the highlight of my viewing week.

So much so that I once splashed out a considerable amount of dosh on one of Sue-Ellen’s cast-off power dresses.

I met the fabulous Linda Gray, who played JR’s long-suffering alcoholic wife, and told her of my purchase.

She laughed and said that she was so glad shoulder pads went out of fashion as they were cumbersome and annoyingly itchy.

But in recent times I have noticed the pads have made a big comeback on the catwalk.

Time to put those darn Brillo pads back in your frocks, ladies!

I’LL PROBABLY END UP STICKING TO ALOE JUICE AND TAP WATER

If you’re a health geek like me, you’ll be excited to hear of a new drink on the market.

Birch water is made from the sap of silver birch trees and my gym bunny pals cannot get enough of it.

Apparently it is now outselling coconut water, which was so popular as a post-gym hydrating drink last year.

According to the drink’s makers, birch water also has other benefits.

They reportedly claim it will treat liver disease, ease headaches, banish cellulite and speed up weight loss.

Sounds a little too good to be true to me and at £2.50 a bottle it’s a bit pricey.

I’ll certainly give it a go, but I’ll probably end up sticking to my Poundland aloe juice and tap water, which is free!
