Most people would remember the late actress Kate O’Mara for her various TV roles over the decades – as Joan Collins’s scheming sister in Dynasty, to appearances in Howard’s Way, Doctor Who and many others.

But many will be unaware of her connection with the Kings Theatre, Southsea. For it was her great grandfather JW Boughton who gave the people of Portsmouth the Kings in 1907 bringing colour, music and entertainment to brighten their days.

As a child the theatre was Kate’s playground and in 2007 she returned to celebrate the theatre’s centenary. She was a proud patron and will be much missed.

She once said: ‘The Kings Theatre is our heritage. Let us ensure it will always survive.’ Indeed.
