Were braless Friends a way to pull people into the show?

RICK JACKSON: Who’s the wise guy? Me!

Have your say

Watching a recent re-run of the recent re-runs of the recent re-runs of Friends on Comedy Central, my daughter asked me a tricky question.

It went like this: ‘No-one in this show wears bras – were they not invented then?’

And she, like most of the female characters depicted, has a point.

Friends isn’t that old, really, but old enough to show women without bras on a regular basis.

What TV show does that now, bar some on those explicit channels far down the listings?

I’ve got a theory.

Perhaps it was a deliberate ploy, a way to appeal to certain viewers and to pull them into watching the series until they got hooked by the comedy.

Am I right?
