Could it be true that the US military took down a tweet after it was deemed offensive because it contained the word ‘chinks’?

I hope to goodness that this is one of the internet’s better rumours – almost believable, but surely not possible.

The tweet allegedly referred to chinks in the armour of a vehicle.

What is wrong with that? A chink is defined as a crack, cleft or fissure, so what could be wrong with using that word in an appropriate context?

Yes I know that it is used by some as a slur, but in a tweet about armour how does that work?

If the world is to pander to offence from using words in the correct context with no possible misinterpretation, then it’s a world which has indeed gone mad.
