Why do so many parents tell horror stories of childbirth?

COMMENT: All agencies must to held to account for Anne Savidge’s tragic death

Have your say

Childbirth is the wonderful miracle of life. So why do we all exchange horror stories of the event?

It never fails to surprise me how many people tell Sarah and I about their experiences of childbirth.

All the nitty gritty details such as the pain, the stitches, the length of time it took.

And it’s not just babies. On our very first cruise, all fellow passengers talked about on the first night was their roughest crossings.

Why? Is it a British thing? Why highlight the negatives instead of concentrating on the positives?

But whatever people say to put us off, after watching countless episodes of TV series One Born Every Minute we’re ready. Or as ready as we can be, that is!
