Wonderful way to remember wartime Operation Dragoon

COMMENT: All agencies must to held to account for Anne Savidge’s tragic death

Have your say

A day trip to Cannes was perfectly timed to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the city’s wartime liberation by the Allies back in 1944.

When we arrived, traffic queues were forming as a flotilla of Second World War armoured vehicles slowly rumbled through the High Street.

The Stars and Stripes were flying high along with the Tricolour and period outfits could be seen everywhere you looked.

It was a wonderful way to remember Operation Dragoon, the southern front to the Normandy landings and Operation Overlord.

And something else.

Amid all the colour and noise, it was also very nice to see at least one Union Flag.
