X Factor was great telly - but for all the wrong reasons

NEWS COMMENT: A move in the right direction but still not a win for all

I'm so thrilled that Matt Cardle won X Factor.

I get fed up of car crash reality television and despise the so-called 'dumbing down' culture of entertainment today, but you can't deny that this year's show has been great telly – even if it was for all the wrong reasons!

There was Wagner (the least said about him the better) stroppy Cher (kept in because she was 'marketable') and the granddaughter of an 80-year-old escort (Katie Waissel).

Then there was Matt. I loved him! He was amazing, a normal Joe Bloggs who happens to have an incredible talent.

He deserved to win, so I'm thrilled for him. But the big question remains – will he scoop the top spot this week and make Christmas No 1? You betcha.
