SHOPPERS are invited to take a moment to remember the religious message behind Easter.

The Salvation Army will lead a short service in Commercial Road on Good Friday to celebrate the holiday.

Bible readings and traditional hymns led by its band and choir will take place at the service.

Major Ced Hills, of Portsmouth Citadel, said: ‘Good Friday is often overlooked as just another day. Shops open as usual and it is a normal working day for many.

‘But one local Good Friday tradition that has been honoured for decades is The Salvation Army’s short service in Commercial Road.

‘It’s an opportunity for shoppers to pause for a moment and sing some well-known hymns.’

The outdoor service takes place from 3pm, on April 6.

It will be followed by a meditation service at Portsmouth Citadel Salvation Army Worship and Community Centre, Lake Road, Landport, at 5pm, all welcome.
