Paddington Bear 50p coins to enter circulation this month

New coins celebrating the 60th anniversary of Paddington Bear will enter circulation later this month.Â

The 50p pieces will be appearing in your change in October, the Royal Mint has announced. 

The beloved bear from darkest Peru is turning 60 this month '“ with the first Paddington Bear book being published on October 13, 1958. 

Earlier this year the Royal Mint released special limited edition Paddington coins for collectors '“ which started at £10 and cost up to £780.

Paddington 50p to enter circulation

However the 50p pieces entering circulation this month will not cost you anything '“ simply check your change to see if you've found one. 

The Royal Mint are releasing two designs into circulation, featuring the beloved children's character at two of his most iconic locations '“ Paddington station and outside Buckingham Palace. 

A special collectors album is also being released, costing £5, for fans who want to keep the coins in a special location '“ perhaps to avoid spending them.

On its website, the Royal Mint said: '˜Get your paws on Paddington! Collect the coins that celebrate 60 years of Britain's best-loved bear.

'˜October 2018 marks the 60th anniversary of Michael Bond first introducing Paddington Bear to the nation.

'˜To celebrate, The Royal Mint has released two official United Kingdom coins, capturing Paddington sitting on his suitcase at Paddington Station and also on an exciting day out at Buckingham Palace.

'˜If you enjoy collecting coins, then you'll love this exciting new chapter of the Great British Coin Hunt.

The gold and silver proof limited edition Paddington coins, which went on sale in the summer, will not enter circulation. 

With the gold proof coins now officially sold out according to the Royal Mint's website.
