The new research was released by the Baker Dearing Educational Trust, the charity that promotes University Technical Colleges (UTC), one of which is being opened in Portsmouth in 2017.
The research surveyed parents with teenagers at mainstream schools and, in a separate survey, parents whose children attend UTCs.
It found nearly half of parents said they felt stressed about their child’s education and 80 per cent of parents believed the education system needed to change to reflect 21st century working Britain.
The research revealed parents who have children studying at UTCs feel more optimistic about their children’s prospects.
Led by the University of Portsmouth and Portsmouth City Council, UTC Portsmouth will open in September 2017.
Students aged between 14 and 19 will have the opportunity to study hands-on technical subjects alongside a traditional academic education.
