Part of Clarence Esplanade closed after Storm Angus hits Portsmouth
A SECTION of Clarence Esplanade has been closed as strong winds and flooding hit Southsea.
Portsmouth City Council has put temporary road-gate closures in place along the seafront after Storm Angus hit Portsmouth in the early hours of this morning.
Dramatic video of the storm hitting was shot by Guilhem Brandy.
A small section of the seafront, behind the Pyramids Centre, has also been closed off due to flooding.
A spokesman from the council said: ‘The flood defence gates were deployed on November 12 in preparation for the adverse weather and have been in deployment ever since.
‘Unfortunately due to the severity of the weather some water still managed to get into the area.
‘For their own safety, the public are asked to respect the area sectioned off, between the Rocksby’s Restaurant and the Pyramids Centre, and make use the alternate pedestrian routes available.’
The Pyramids Centre is currently closed as the storm has caused flooding to parts of the building, affecting some public and administrative areas.
BHlive, who run the centre, are assessing the full extent of the damage and have taken the precaution of closing the centre at this time.
