MENTAL health patients have been moved out of a secure unit in Fareham so that £1.7m of work can be done to renovate the building.

In total 16 patients from Ravenswood House have been moved to Woodhaven Hospital, in Calmore.

Work is expected to last for up to nine months and will include improvements to safety, security and environment for patient.

The service is run by Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust.

Dr Lesley Stevens, director of mental health and learning disabilities for the trust, said: ‘We are carrying out essential building work at to maintain and improve safety for patients.

‘This is part of a planned programme, which we have worked closely with NHS England, the Ministry of Justice and the Care Quality Commission.

‘After careful consideration and discussion with patients, their families, and staff, we decided the safest and least disruptive way to carry out this work was to transfer patients to Calmore.

‘The patients are at a stage in their rehabilitation and recovery which makes this purpose-built, high-quality hospital ideally suited as part of their journey back into the community.’
