Paul prepares to join 25,000 other cyclists in charity ride

The Chief Petty Officer Marine Engineering Mechanic Submariner is preparing to join more than 25,000 cyclists to raise cash for Ovarian Cancer Action.

Paul, who works at HMS Sultan in Gosport, will attempt the Prudential Ride London 100 on July 31.

The 54-year-old, from Lee-on-the-Solent, was inspired to do the challenge by his wife Cheryl.

He says: ‘Cheryl started it all going when she entered the Ride The Night 100km in London in 2015, raising money for Ovarian Cancer Action.

‘She said I should get involved so I applied to take part in the Man Power challenge. Unfortunately, although it was a five-day ride from Glasgow to London, I could only join in on the last day.

‘But I really enjoyed every mile and thanks to the support of Ovarian Cancer Action I got a place to represent the charity in the Prudential Ride London 100.

‘I have completed weekly training rides.

‘Hopefully Cheryl will be on The Mall a few hours later to welcome me back.’

Paul has been awarded a number of medals during his career in the Royal Navy.

But despite all of Paul’s success, he is still enjoying the buzz that a new challenge brings.

He adds: ‘You are never too old to start something new and getting into cycling again has allowed me to set personal goals and enjoy every minute and second of being outdoors.’
