US rockers Pearl Jam have been announced as Saturday’s headliners at the 2012 Isle of Wight.

In what is being billed as a UK festival exclusive, the Seattle-based band will take to the main stage for their first outdoor show on British soil since last year’s appearance in Hyde Park, London.

The announcement completes the Isle of Wight’s ‘American Trilogy’ of headliners, with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers leading Friday night, and the veteran Bruce Springsteen closing the festival on the Sunday.

Pearl Jam, who are working on their tenth studio album, will be joined on the Saturday by Biffy Clyro and Madness, along with a host of other bands.

Other confirmed acts include: Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Elbow, Example, Noah and the Whale, and The Vaccines.

Next year sees the Isle of Wight take over the traditional Glastonbury weekend of June 22-24.
