200 bikers follow funeral procession for motorcyclist Dan

Around 200 motorcyclists followed the funeral procession of Daniel Stone through Gosport town centre.

Shoppers watched as the bikers roared down Mumby Road into South Street towards Holy Trinity Church.

Police accompanied the mass of motorbikes, which ranged from people on mopeds to Harley-Davidson riders.

The coffin, which resembled a musical instrument case, was placed in a sidecar attached to a motorbike.

People watching were in awe of the cortege.

Jackie Brown, from Alverstoke, said: ‘What a lovely way to say goodbye to someone.

‘The motorbike community has such strong connections and you see how much they care about each other in moments like this.

‘It would have been nice to see the road closed. The sheer number of bikes was incredible though.’

Fellow shopper Ian Johnson, 57, added: ‘It was an amazing sight to see.

‘I heard the sudden loud engines and couldn’t believe how many were driving past.

‘It must be lovely for the family to see how many people cared about him.’

As previously reported in The News, Daniel, from Gosport, died last month following a crash.

He was riding his motorbike north on the A32 heading to Fareham when he was involved in a collision with a lorry.

In a tribute given at the time of his death, his family said he ‘lived life to the full’ and ‘was passionate about his music and bikes’.

Flowers remain at the site of the crash.

Witnesses to the collision should call the Serious Collisions Investigation Unit on 101, quoting Operation Honeydew.
