In a statement on the company’s website, a spokesman said: ‘We're continuing to carry out emergency repairs to our network along the A27 Chichester Bypass after our pipe was damaged earlier today by a third party.
‘The A27 remains closed in both directions between Oving Road and Bognor Road for everyone's safety while our engineers carry out the required repairs. A signed diversion is in place for affected motorists.
‘We'd advise motorists to plan alternative routes and allow extra time for your journeys overnight and during Tuesday morning's rush hour.
