THE father of Elliott Spencer, from Locks Heath, who is to marry actor Stephen Fry, has said he is ‘over the moon’.

QI presenter and intellectual Mr Fry, 57, announced they were to marry on Twitter yesterday and Elliott’s dad Robert, who lives in Locks Heath with his wife Melinda, said they are very happy.

Mr Spencer, 57, said: ‘We are obviously very happy. We are over the moon.’

Elliott, 27, grew up in Locks Heath with his brother Tom and went to Park Gate Primary School before moving to London to chase his dream of becoming a writer.

Next-door neighbour Marina Worthy, 79, said: ‘When I came to live here 20 years ago their ball would come over the back of my garden.

‘I would always go and give it back to Elliott.

‘I’ve not seen him since he was young but he was a nice little boy.

‘I’m pleased for him. The age gap isn’t a problem; if he and Stephen are happy, they’re happy.

‘Life is different now, you have got to get with the times.

‘I wish them all the best.’

One neighbour, who asked not to be named, was not aware of the news but said Elliott is a lovely man.

She added: ‘He went to the local school and he is a very happy person.

‘He loved his dog, a beagle, but I don’t see him too often as he has moved up to London.’
