WHEN Loose Women panelist Sherrie Hewson announced she hadn’t been on a date in eight years, Andrew Frowley decided he could be the one.
Sherrie admitted live on the ITV show that it had been a while since she last had a date and a competition was run in a bid to find her a man.
Thousands of hopefuls sent in their videos with a message about why they could be the man for her.
Andrew, 50, made it onto a shortlist of six who appeared live on the show yesterday.
Although he didn’t make it through to the final three, he said it was a fantastic experience.
‘It was a great day out,’ he said. ‘I got to see behind the scenes and I kissed Sherrie and Kate Thornton and Coleen Nolan.’
Andrew worked for the Royal Navy for 22 years as a mine clearance diver and has been separated for four years and has two children.
He said he was shocked when he initially received a phone call inviting him to appear on the show.
‘I never thought it would go any further,’ he said.
‘Six weeks later, I had forgotten about it and I got a phone call from the producer.
‘At first I thought it was a joke. I thought it was a mate winding me up.
‘I was unemployed at the time so I was just up watching daytime TV.
‘I thought “this would be fun” but I never thought it would go any further.
‘I have seen Sherrie throughout her career. Most people know her through Coronation Street. She has always seemed to be on telly over the years.
‘I did a bit of research into her likes and dislikes. I know she likes her animals so I said that I had been brought up on a farm and I said that I had worked in the Navy.’
Yesterday, Andrew, of Longfield Avenue, Fareham, got the train to London and was picked up from Waterloo station and taken straight to the ITV studios.
He then took part in a speed dating session with Sherrie, who went on to choose her final three men, who she took to London Zoo for the afternoon.
Andrew added: ‘It’s a shame but it was brilliant. It was a great experience.’
