GAME of Thrones star Jerome Flynn is supporting a mum-of two as she runs 111 miles around the country to raise awareness of the plight of white lions.

Ann Fowler, who grew up in Portsmouth, is taking on all 15 Great Run races across the country, including the Great South Run which is in October.

It’s all gone really well. It’s been really enjoyable but very hectic

The 39-year-old is running in aid of the Global White Lion Protection Trust in a quest to raise £10,000 for the charity, which aims to help the critically-endangered white lions of South Africa.

Jerome, who ran the Great Birmingham 10K race with Ann in May, said: ‘I have met Ann before and she’s a lovely lady. Anything I can do to help her and raise awareness for the cause, I am very happy to do.

‘There are so many things that need our attention, time and money. It seems to be a world on the edge of catastrophe.

‘For me, there’s something about the lions and what they represent.

‘If we carry on, there aren’t going to be any left in the wild.

‘It’s very responsible to protect our environment and to look after it.’

Ann, who now lives in Wolverhampton with her husband and two children, said: ‘I’m a keen runner so I decided I would take on the Great Run series to raise the profile of the charity and as much money as I can, to help save them from extinction.

‘It’s all about exposure. It’s about getting this charity out there so that people are thinking about the white lions.

‘It’s all gone well. It’s been enjoyable but very hectic.’

Ann said she was thrilled to get the support from such a well-known actor as Jerome.

‘It’s amazing. I know how busy he is at the moment. He’s all over the country but he took the time to come and do this for me. It’s mindblowing.’

And Jerome said he was happy to support Ann.

‘It’s very typical of Ann that she is prepared to commit,’ he said.

‘It’s one thing training for one big race but she’s spread it out over the whole year. She wants to help and running is a great way for people to do that.

‘It’s a great thing to do – that’s where her heart is.’
