What better way to do it than by running your own event for Armed Forces Day – and the government can help make it happen.

A grant of up to £10,000 is up for grabs for organisers of local celebrations that tie in with the event, which is held nationally on Saturday, June 25.

Issued by the Ministry of Defence, the grant is designed to help fund the logistics of running an event, and funding is available for celebrations of any scale, from large street parades to neighbourhood gatherings, displays or school talks.

In 2015, more than 170 Armed Forces Day celebrations were held across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and over 120 were supported with funding from the Ministry of Defence.

Wing Commander Tracey Broome of the Ministry of Defence Armed Forces Day Team said: ‘Armed Forces Day is a chance for the public to show their support for everyone in the Armed Forces community.

‘Now in its eighth year, we’ve funded a huge variety of Armed Forces Day events, from horse races to music events.

‘We want to make sure that every community across the UK has an opportunity to convey their thanks through their own unique local event.’

This year, the national event will be held in North East Lincolnshire, with the coastal town of Cleethorpes hosting a military parade, air displays, music, entertainment and family activities.

If you think you are eligible for a grant, you should apply before March 25.
