ONE of the stars of stargazing is visiting Portsmouth as part of a unique festival.

Mark Thompson, the presenter of Stargazing Live and a regular on the Alan Titchmarsh Show will be at Action Stations, at the Historic Dockyard, on Monday.

Mr Thompson is a contemporary of Professor Brian Cox who has praised his new book, A Down to Earth Guide to the Cosmos.

He will be appearing at the Dockyard as part of Portsmouth Festival of Thought which is playing host to some of the top thinkers and activists celebrating non–fiction writing.

His enthusiastic work led him to serving on the Council of the Royal Astronomical Society and speaking at many national events including the National Astronomy Meeting, and he is President of Norwich Astronomical Society

Dom Kippen is curator of the festival. He said: ‘Mark Thompson makes astronomy and space accessible.

‘He manages to make it interesting, just like Prof Brian Cox does and Sir Patrick Moore did.

‘He does it in an effort to make the big seem small.

‘Mark does it in such a way that he manages to show just how engaging and interesting it is.’

Tickets for the event, at 7pm, cost £5.
