A GOSPORT author was today winging his way to Las Vegas to help judge the World Food Championships.
Married dad-of-four John Gledson, 44, has been given the honour of overseeing the ‘chilli’ and ‘burger’ categories in the mammoth event hosted by Adam Richman of TV’s Man V Food.
The show sees Adam take on mammoth eating challenges in venues across America.
Mr Gledson was asked to step in as a World Food Championships judge after contacting organisers as part of him penning his new book The Sausage Trail.
The book sees him travel all over the world in search of the perfect sausage.
Mr Gledson, of Sydney Road, Gosport, said: ‘I emailed them and asked if they had a sausage category. They said ‘we don’t, but would you like to come and judge?’
‘Man V Food is really the reason why I got into it in the first place.’
Mr Gledson has been penning his book since last November and has travelled to Serbia, Hungary, Germany and other countries in his quest for the perfect sausage.
The Sausage Trail is due to be published next year.
He added: ‘I’ve always wanted to write a travel book and I’ve always been keen on food as well.
‘I’ve always been into sausages.
‘There’s a sausage in every culinary aspect in the world so I thought, “why not do that?”
‘I started in the Shetlands, I went to Serbia, then Germany and I’ve just come back from Hungary.
‘It will all end with the World Food Championships.’
The World Food Championships take place in Las Vegas from tomorrow until Sunday.
