TOP businesses run by mums will be recognised at the first annual Mums and Business Awards in Portsmouth.

Founder Terry Murphy said: ‘Running a business is a full-time job, but so is bringing up children.

‘These awards are to recognise the fabulous job these highly-motivated and wonderful mothers do in juggling both tasks.’

There will six categories including Best New Business and Most Innovative Business.

Other awards will go to a businesses focused on providing products or services for women, the most socially-aware business, the best health or wellness business and the best virtual/technology business.

Ms Murphy added: ‘Everybody loves a winner is a well-known expression, but people do like buying from award-winning businesses.

‘I hope this effort rewards finalists and winners in more ways than just a small memento.’

Ms Murphy said the awards were designed not only to recognise ‘super-mums’ but also to offer them publicity.

She said: ‘They will show endorsement for the businesses, essential in a competitive world, as well as other marketing opportunities.’

The winners will be announced at an All Woman Show at the Mountbatten Leisure Centre on Sunday, June 22 from 10am to 4pm. Nominations can be made at
