WOMEN are gearing up to commemorate 100 years of Women’s Institutes with a wide range of activities in the pipeline.

Next year the groups will be celebrating their centenary and a baton will be travelling to all the WIs in England and Wales, finishing at the Royal Albert Hall for the WI AGM in June next year.

The baton will stop at Westbury Manor Museum in Fareham on Friday, January 16 and a coffee morning will be held to mark the occasion.

Madeleine Oakenfull, secretary of the Farefield Group WI, said that excitement was building, particularly as the group has arranged for a classic Morris Minor convertible to carry the baton.
