THE largest free event on the Havant calendar is just a fortnight away.

Final preparations are being made for the Bedhampton Summer Show, which is held every year at Bidbury Mead.

Havant’s mayor, Marjorie Smallcorn, will be opening proceedings at 2pm on Saturday, July 5.

Ron Tate, one of the organisers, said: ‘Arena events will include the annual children’s fancy dress competition and novelty races.

‘Returning this year will also be two popular crowd pullers: a tug of war and a fun dog show.

‘St Thomas More’s School will also provide a dance display.’

Dog owners will be honing their skills to decide which canine has the waggiest tail, the fastest sit down and the best trick. The best junior handler will be another award.

A teddy bear’s picnic precedes the event from 1pm.

Mr Tate added: ‘Proceeds from the show primarily support the work of the St Thomas and St Nicholas Churches and other charities.’
