A BONFIRE night guy decked out in Help for Heroes gear raised almost £600 for the charity.

Rob Smith, from Leigh Park, created the 6ft guy and collected cash in West Street, Havant, Cascades shopping centre in Portsmouth and at the Havant fireworks display on Stockheath Common last weekend.

Generous members of the public donated £582 in total for the forces charity.

Mr Smith, a 32-year-old former soldier, from Leigh Park, said: ‘I’m chuffed with the total.

‘One older chap saw my story in The News and waited for me at the Cascades and put £80 in. What a lovely thing to do? ‘I’d like to say a big thank you to all those who donated. It’s such a good cause.’
