FIREFIGHTERS pushed themselves to the limit as they took part in a gruelling charity fundraiser at Gunwharf Quays.

Teams from Cosham, Southsea, Emsworth, Hayling Island and Portchester covered a total of one million metres – the equivalent of 621 miles – on stationary bikes and rowers.

The challenge was completed in around 10 hours.

Fitness equipment was donated by Nuffield Health.

The firefighters were joined by a team from South Downs College for the event on Saturday, which was aiming to raise £3,800. The money will help fund a Christmas party for sick children at Queen Alexandra Hospital.
