Sam told me: ‘On February 20, I’m holding my second charity fun day to raise
funds for different cancer charities.

‘Last year my sister-in-law, Nikki Croucher, sadly lost her battle with the disease at the age of 37.

‘We held our first event in the summer of 2015 at Moneyfield’s Sports and Social Club, playing a charity 11-a-side football match and holding a family fun day.

‘We amazingly raised over £4,000, which was incredible as I only threw the event together in less than a month.

‘Sadly Nikki lost her mum to motor neuron disease almost exactly a year previous to losing her own life to cancer, so it’s safe to say their family have had a pretty horrific year.

‘Things like these fundraisers show her close family, how much she meant to everyone.

‘The money we raised was split between The Rowans Hospice and my brother Spencer Croucher (Nikki’s husband) to do something nice with his two young boys.

‘This month would have been Nikki’s 38th birthday, so this year we are hosting a five-a-side football tournament at Goals in Portsmouth with a disco in the evening.

‘It was clear to me after the demand for the 11-a-side game, this seemed the best way for more people to get involved and the response so far has been brilliant.

‘This time we’re fundraising for The Mouth Cancer Foundation.

‘They’re a very small charity as it is a lesser-known type of the disease.

‘We hope to raise awareness by helping them.

‘We are also making the summer fun day an annual event.

‘Later this year we will be raising money for the Rowans Meerkats Service, which is a part of The Rowans Hospice.

‘They provide support and run groups/trips for young children who have lost someone close to them.

‘They did amazing work with my nephews so we want to ensure they can keep helping other children in similar situations for many years to come.’

What a wonderful story from an incredibly strong family.

We wish Sam and his family all the very best in all their future fundraising efforts.
